409473At what age do you suggest to start disciplining toddlers? What are first rules of effective discipline (what words do we use etc)? We have no idea as this is our first child and don’t want to use our parents’ form of (physical) discipline. 

Disciplining toddlers is a huge topic and requires a number of different factors.  Perhaps it is easier at this point to give some tips on disciplining toddlers.  Babies are aware from day one and learning from what you as parents do and learning about their world around them.  So well before your baby becomes a toddler you as a parent are shaping, influencing and guiding their behaviour.  So there is quite a lot of ground work that happens before the age of 1 or 2 years.

As a parent, I certainly support the view that there is no need at all for physical discipline of hitting, smacking or that type of punishment in order to have children that are well behaved and do what is expected of them.  Though Parents often ask how can they discipline??
